Your home should be a reflection of YOU, it's what makes your house feel like a home and it's what makes your guests feel welcomed and comfortable when they visit. You may absolutely love that new Kmart cushion, but if you don't, you are just going to end up replacing it sooner rather than later. I much prefer to spend a little extra on something knowing I will have it for a long time, rather than needing or wanting to replace it in a few weeks.
Updating your cushions can be one of the quickest and easiest ways to update and elevate a space, so here are my top 5 tips for choosing the right cushions. 1. Purchase the best quality cushions your budget will allow. Yes stores like Kmart and Target have great budget cushions, and it's very affordable to purchase half a dozen new cushions to update your sofa, but do you REALLY love them?
2. Swap out any polyester filled inserts for a feather ones to instantly level up your cushion game...and don't forget to size up! If your cushion is a 45cm square, pop in a 50cm square insert. Feather cushions sit better when styled, they look fabulous when "chopped" and they just give your cushions an overall more luxe look.

3. If you're on a budget don't rush it. Have a vision of what you want the space to look like and how you want it to feel, then shop your cushions accordingly. Carefully selected cushions are timeless and if they fit in with YOUR STYLE you can use them around your entire home to update different spaces, without having to spend money on buying new ones. 4. If you absolutely love a cushion, but it's a little out of your budget...wait. I will recommend ten times over to wait and buy the cushion you love over purchasing a cushion that might be pretty, but doesn't fit the space or feel like YOU.

5. Get yourself a Mood Board! My most valuable tool in my "Interior Styling bag of tricks" is a Mood Board. It's something that can be referred back to over and over and is super handy to whip out when you're shopping to see if what you're about to purchase fits in with the style of your space.

BONUS TIP: Where possible, always purchase cushion covers without the polyester insert, but if you do have to, try to repurpose them. I like to donate my polyester inserts to people who make stuffed toys for charity.
